I Gave In To It! 11 Things You May Not Know About Me.

I got the number 11 There’s this game “things you may not know about me ”  going around on Facebook that has  filled my news feed over the past few weeks. Intrigued I started reading a few of the things shared by various people and found myself chuckling and agreeing with some others. I enjoyed discovering insights about people that I had never met but engaged with often on social media and somehow felt slightly more connected to them.

I even felt like I suddenly knew them just a tiny bit better. I must say that I would have let this pass me by, thinking it a waste of time, insignificant or irrelevant. But it’s not and I didn’t ( let it pass my by, that is) It’s kinda fun, a little  vulnerable, coming out of hiding and sharing something with the world that only you ( or I would know) So
why did I decide to give the “things you may not know about me game a go?
well;

  • I love a challenge and having to come up with 9 or 10 things that I had never shared felt quite challenging.
  • We live in world where people are becoming more digitally engaged yet socially disconnected. I love connection, so if you are reading this blog then it is my intention to share a little of myself with you that allows me to connect with you on a deeper level.
  • People do business with people they know, like and trust. They do not purchase from organisations, clubs or associations, they purchase from people like you and me. I  hope by sharing some of my personal stories with you, you will get to know me, trust me and eventually do business with me if what I have to offer is a fit for you.

It’s taken me almost an entire day to come up with something.

So here’s 11 things you may not know about me.

1.) I used to sit on the side of the road with an old guitar (that I had no idea how to play ) and sing “ Kabing Kabang Kabongo, I’m all tied up in a love triangle” to the vehicles passing by. (I was 9 at the time and have no idea where the song came from nor have I ever sung it since.- I considered myself a bit of an entertainer.)

2.) I was the team mascot, chosen to represent my primary school sports team “ LEO ” and as a shy 6 year old marched between two tall poles displaying the team colors with a humungous stuffed toy lion behind  me.  (I was rather a cute 6 year old – I can see why they chose me 🙂 )

3.) I hate the taste of tequila and have vowed never ever ever to drink it again (Let’s just say my teenage years were not all educational and I think I could have been the cause of my dad’s many grey hairs)

4.) I enrolled in a hairdressing course, dressed like a goth, wore periwinkles with pitch black hair ( although they called the color  “Beaujolais” in hairdressing school – a deep wine red) after failing psychology 101 twice ( I  wanted to be a psychologist – obviously I’m not but I am a darn good business coach.)

5.) The longest and hardest journey that I have ever been on is finding myself – uncovering who I really am at my core. ( It’s also been the most fulfilling and a work in progress)

6.) There are days where I feel like I could touch the stars and other days where the deepest pit doesn’t feel deep enough and I just want to crawl under the covers and avoid facing the world. It’s on those days that that my faith sustains me.

7.)I recently immigrated to a new country and I long to have a close female friend, someone to drink tea with, giggle with, share my tears with and go on shopping spree’s with. A friend who will tell me when my ass looks fat in an outfit and call me on my BS. Someone who pops in unexpectedly, sits on the edge of my bed while I do my make up and who doesn’t try and rationalise my bad excuses.

8.) As a coach I often think, I’m expected to have all my SHIT together   ( here’s an insight, I don’t 😉 )

9.) I am passionately and madly in love with a tall, dark and handsome Greek man. I’m convinced he’s my angel. He is my soul mate, my husband. I have followed him from one country to another, where our adventures continue. We have 4 beautiful children and I feel treasured and loved when he holds me tight in his arms.(I’m totally spoilt and get tea brought to me in bed each morning and before bed each evening – NO, you can’t have him. 🙂  he is already taken. )

10.) I suck at board games. (Yes, Really.)

11.) It is my absolute BHAD ( Big Hairy Audacious Dream ) to travel the world, to speak on international stages, to inspire, encourage and support others to discover their true purpose and live their best lives. (one of my spiritual gifts is exhortation ) The gift of exhortation is the divine strength or ability to encourage others through the written or spoken word. Acts 14:22, Romans 12:8, I Tim. 4:13, Heb 10:24-25

Wow, Brenda, I love this post! Well done! And I really feel more connected with you. Love your stories. Have moved a lot myself and left a friend like that behind everywhere I went. It sucks. Now looking for a new one in Switzerland. You rock.
